My love letter to black men

Warning: This post is not, I repeat NOT, a political post despite my mentioning our recently reelected president. Don't try to make it something it isn't, folks. :-)
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

I love black men. Now don't let the fact that I am married to a tall, skinny white guy who can't dance confuse you (sorry, honey). I love black men.

I see my son in the faces of the doctors I work for, in my husband's colleagues, in my neighbors, in our president. I see the amazing strides our country has taken in the last 50 years and I see how very far we still have to go.

Oh, how my heart has changed since my son arrived. Please don't misunderstand- This isn't to say I have ever thought less of black men. I have always been someone who tries to treat all people with the respect they deserve (and that's not to say I always succeed. I am nothing if not human). But now when I look at black men, I see my son grown. I see what my son will become and that fills my heart with such joy that I can't explain. And the love I have for my own son reflects back to these men who have paved the way for him to become a doctor, to become a baseball star, to even become the president someday.

So today, on the day after our first black president is reelected, I say thank you to all the black men who have fought so hard to make this country a place where my son can become anything he wants to become. You are my heroes. I love you. Truly.

    1. I sure would be happy if I was raising a future Phillie... I suppose I'll let him decide for himself though. ;-)
